Neighbours looking out for neighbours.

Malabar Patrols is a resident-led community patrol for Malabar, Gqeberha. We watch our streets, respond when a neighbour calls for help, and pass what we see to SAPS.

Our mission

To make Malabar a place where every family feels safe at home and on the street, through visible patrols, fast response to emergencies and a community that is informed and involved.

Malabar

Malabar lies in the northern areas of Gqeberha (Nelson Mandela Bay), between Gelvandale, Schauderville, Linton Grange and Morningside, close to the N2. It grew from families moved here under the Group Areas Act, many from South End, and took its name from Malabar Hill in Mumbai. Today it is a close community of homes, mosques, schools, the clinic, the shopping centre and the community hall.

What we do

  • Visible patrols. Trained volunteers patrol in marked vehicles and on foot, especially at night and at school times.
  • Emergency response. Our SOS system calls the nearest volunteer on duty when a resident presses SOS, and keeps escalating until someone accepts.
  • Eyes and ears for SAPS. We observe, record and report. Crimes go to SAPS Gelvandale; we do not replace the police.
  • Information you can trust. Verified alerts, safety tips and meeting dates, here and on our WhatsApp. No rumours, no names of suspects.
  • Community. Meetings, training, clean-ups and help for those who need it.

“Malabar Patrols fortifies your assets, while fortifying your peace of mind.”
